The Miami Alum Version

Here’s the link for the Miami University Alumni Association version of the Ron Tammen story. It has some cool background on the history of Fisher Hall – a sort of creepy place back in the day.

By the way, posts will be updated this week regarding CIA and FBI file information. Study abroad and a summer internship temporarily halted my Ron Tammen blogging. The CIA wrote back citing several reasons they won’t release any records – this is typical according to my current employer who has a relative who works for the CIA. The FBI sent me a good stack of files with LOTS of retractions. More to come soon.

Miami FOIA Request

CIA Information Request

By Amelia Carpenter

Updates to follow regarding processing the materials requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Here’s what the letter says.

Requesting the documents is simple. There are clear directions on how to file your request on the website. E-mail requests are not permitted. Since President George W. Bush’s mandate to establish FOIA Requester Service Centers in 2005 with signing Executive Order 13392 – Improving Agency Disclosure of Information, requesters of CIA information may check the status of their request here.

This story will be updated.

FBI Documents … Success!

Wisdoma.com

By Amelia Carpenter

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) documents were mailed home and were received yesterday. Didn’t have to pay a thing, and there are about two dozen pages, according to my mom.

Next steps: Follow up with any documents I have questions about with the FBI, and file a FOIA request with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

FOIA Request For FBI Documents

By Amelia Carpenter

Wisdoma.com

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has a page dedicated to public records and requests for records through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Click below to view the official documents I filled out and emailed to the FBI April 22, 2011. The process has been fairly easy thus far. Still waiting to hear back aside from a confirmation email.

Miami University President Emeritus Phillip Shriver died Saturday evening. He was 88-years-old.

Shriver served as president from 1965 to 1981 and retired from teaching in 1998. Shriver used to tell the story of Ronald Tammen as part of his Miami Mysteries lecture.

The reporter interviewed Shriver for a story in Miami’s yearbook, the Recensio in 2008. Shriver was passionate and generous in giving his time to tell the story.

Funeral arrangements are pending. The News and Information Office will be releasing an obituary tomorrow morning, according to Director Claire Wagner. A preliminary article was posted earlier today.

Rest in peace, Dr. Shriver. You will be missed.
